Typetravel allows to read articles while travelling in time through four historical typographical and layout styles that span over five hundred years. Each theme draws inspiration from original sources, carefully selected and re-elaborated to offer users an excellent reading experience.
This website was developed for the course Information Modeling and Web Technology, which is part of the Digital Humanities and Digital Knowledge master degree at the University of Bologna.

Dive into the heart of 16th century with our Renaissance style. Discover the renaissance-inspired layout and the the typeface Bembo, based on the font created in 1496 by the Aldine Press, the printing office founded by Aldo Manutio in 1494 in Venice. Italian grotesque illustrations from 1540s frame the text to recreate the layout of Renaissance printed books.
Ever wondered how your life would have been if you'd lived in Vienna at the beginning of the 20th century? You can have a glimpse of how it would have been like to live side by side of Gustav Klimt and Max Kurzweil by selecting the Vienna Secession theme. Discover the style inspired by the magazine Ver Sacrum, founded by the two artists and published between 1898 and 1903. It features contributions of further great artists as Egon Schiele, Kolo Moser and Joseph Maria Olbrich. The elegant fonts and the floral and sinuous decorations will bring you back to this fervent artistic period.
Are you feeling nostalgic? Are you tired of watching videos on youtube? Do you miss the old trusty VHS? Select our 1980s style if you would like to get back to those neon color years. You will find huge text, gradients, contrasting colors, glitching screens and, of course, neon grids. You will not want to come back to the present.
